Grow Your Natural Hair Faster

Grow Your Natural Hair Faster

I’m a girl who is always looking for a natural solution for everything. I hate taking pills and stuffing my body with chemicals, I feel as if they are bullying or forcing my body to do something faster then it is supposed to do! Hey, I’m not advocating the use of no medication! Trust me I’m the first one to take mine when I’m really sick. What I’m saying is that this quick fix to a problem may end up “cooking” bigger problems down the road. So why not follow a natural solution? There is always one! I know that natural hair seems to take forever to grow given that it’s so curly and shrinks like crazy, and many can go to extreme measures to achieve long hair quicker. What if you could grow your hair faster with a natural supplement?

Whenever I go into a natural health products’ shop, I always end up perusing the corridors looking at shelves and seeing what else is new in the natural world. While I was doing this on my last visit to buy some soap nuts to make myself a shampoo, I came across something that caught my attention.  I knew I’d heard or read about it before, but I just couldn’t remember when or where. So I took a picture of it, and when I got home I dug around the internet for info (Don’t judge me! That’s what I do when I find something interesting I don’t know much about). Yes,  I heard about it before, but because faster hair growth isn’t one of my goals it quickly slipped my mind. So, I decided to bring this new knowledge to those of you who might want it. So, this is what I found.

Methyl Sulfonyl Methane

Methyl…what? Yeah, it’s a mouth full. Methyl Sulfonyl Methane, or MSM as it is known, is an organic compound of sulphur that occursMSM Supplement naturally in the environment and in the human body. Commonly used in the medical field, a quick search on the net will tell you that MSM is an important tool for optimal health. It is used in the treatment of arthritis, soft scar tissue, inflammation,  it reduces muscle pains/spasms, helps the immune system, supports a healthy connective tissue and increases blood flow. Although not clinically tested, it is suggested that MSM supplements have some pretty good side effects as they increase your hair growth. Cool, isn’t? When have you ever heard of a medical supplement having such exciting side effects? Probably never!

How Does It Work?

Well, if you remember from a previous post, the main component of hair is found within the cortex and is known as keratin. Keratin is a protein and is  made of long chains of amino acids. The latter, forms a large portion of our cells, muscle, and tissue and they need sulphur as many things in our body seem to depend on it, such as hormones, antioxidants or antibodies. Sulphur is also present in our skin, nails and hair, and our hair is about 90% protein. It appears that by taking MSM supplements the sulphur there has some sort of cellular action which influences hair growth. Wanna know another cool thing? Many people also report that MSM made their hair shinier and less prone to split ends, but this is yet to be clinically proven. Nevertheless, it’s all good news.

What Else About MSM?

Our body is constantly producing and using sulphur, thus why a constant supply of it is good for our health. If you want to supplement your body, you can include soybean, yoghurt, lentils or garlic in your diet. Alternatively, you can buy MSM supplements at your local pharmacy or in health food stores as many people don’t have a balanced diet.

I would recommend that you get advice from your doctor or pharmacist about the appropriate dosage, as it can vary greatly and there are a few side effects with a high dosage. These include thinning of the blood, loose stools, stomach upset, diarrhoea and headache. Women who intend to get pregnant, who are pregnant or breastfeeding should consult their doctor about taking MSM.

Have you taken MSM? Do you do anything to increase your hair growth?

  1. Good site. There is a lot of really good information here. The supplement MSM has good detail. I am going to post about the benefits of Coconut Oil. There is another good one for you. Good Luck.

    1. Hi Claudia, thanks for your comment. Yes coconut oil is an excellent oil and I’ve talked about it in a few post here. Have a look at this one here.

  2. MSM seems to be quite a useful organic molecule. It’s useful not just to grow hair but to relieve chronic pain symptoms due a fairly wide range of health issues. I read quite a few reviews by people who have benefited from the use of MSM.

    1. Yes, MSM is primarly used for medical purposes and is specially good relieving pain symptoms. but is does have some interesting side effects for those who whant long hair or stronger nails.

  3. Hi Monica,

I wanted to take the time to leave you a comment and let you know that you have a very informative site. I agree that a natural solution is the best way and it sounds like MSM is a good product to try.

    1. Hi Kristy, thanks for taking the time to leave a comment here, I appreciate it! If there’s a natural solution, then go all the way. That’s what I think.

  4. Awesome info Ana. I don’t really have problems with my hair and it tends to grow to quick. But there’s always the worry of premature baldness and I wonder would this stuff work as a prevention for that?

    1. Hi Jason, I don’t recall reading any literature indicating MSM for male/women baldness. So I wouldn’t count on that. But did you know that onion juice is good for that, and its effectiveness is comparable to minoxidol which is widely used to combat baldness? Check this post.
